Spring 2010 News

Here's how it stands as of an hour ago. The Canton 11v11 Open adult league has become a 7v7 league and is a go for spring, summer, and fall. I imagine we can come up with two teams and they should both be pretty good, particularly now that we have Steven back so both teams can have a goalie.

As far as entering into MUSL Over-30, I talked to the guy in charge today and it sounds pretty good. They have a meeting tonight and he will let me know for sure tomorrow. A few people (Cal and Roscoe) have already said they don't want to do that, and the younger people wouldn't be eligible. Those of you who are under 30 could always join a team in one of the open divisions if you'd like and then join us when you're old enough. (Apparently, they're pretty stick.)

Like the Orange and Blue teams, those of us who join MUSL would still be able to play in Canton with the the other Green Team people... and then drink beer afterwards. Furthermore, those of you already playing Over-40 could also play Over-30 with us if you'd like (and so can Elizabeth... unlike in life, there are no gender rules in MUSL).

Of the people on the e-mail list (I don't have Ray's contact info), 2 have said they don't want to play MUSL and 2 (I think) are too young. I imagine a few more will choose not to play so I think we'll probably need to find a few more players and drum up some of the folks from years past.

I spoke with Mike at the Ypsi Rec. Dept. today, and he said we can use an Ypsi field as our home field (he promised it would be lined and mowed!) if we'd like. Let me know if you're not old enough or if you chose not to join this team soon so I can get a decent count. We can have a nice little team meeting on Saturday at The Corner Brewery between sets of Jim's band's balls-out rock and roll show.

We'll also need to come up w/ a name and talk uniform info. I suggest the cheaper the better (for shirts... not for a name). Registration will be about the same as Canton as far as pricing goes and you'll need to register on-line.

Fall Season '09

Sept 13: v Dark Blue L 2-1
Sept 20: v Yellow L 3-1 (win by forfeit)
Sept 27: v Light Blue L 7-1 (win by forfeit)
Oct 4: v Orange W 3-2
Oct 11: Bye... 7 or 8 Green Team members played w/ a few Light Blue and beat Orange 7-0.
Oct 18: v Yellow L 3-1
Oct 25: v Orange W 5-0
Nov 1: v Light Blue W 5-1

Without counting the bye week, we had 17 goals for and 16 against. That's not a bad result for a team that could only score 3 in the first 3 games. In retrospect, even w/o the forfeits, we had a pretty strong season. If we'd put our scoring boots on from the beginning, things would look a lot different. Counting the bye week, we finished w/ 4 wins and 4 losses, but after starting 0-3, that's a pretty good turn around. See you all in the spring... have a good winter.

The Fall Season

The e-mail has been sent around a couple times, but I want to make sure everyone knows they need to register on-line before the first game (September 13). Go to the Canton Soccer Club site and follow the steps. You need to register and then add yourself as a participant. You can pay on-line and be sure to check "The Green Team" box... we speak w/ our feet!


Adult League Registration Instructions:

Since this is the first season, you will have to create an account by clicking on the “register now” icon in the upper left corner. If you already have an account (children playing in the club), you should use that account (login under “Member Account” and go to sec. II).

Sec. I – Creating an account

· Click “register now” in the upper left corner of the homepage.

· Put in your information – user name, password, etc.

· Go to section II.

Sec II. – Creating yourself as a participant under your account.

· Under the “Account information on your main screen you will see “Participant Information”

· Click the green check mark that says “Add Participant.”

· Pick “Adult” under the first line item.

· Fill in the rest of the information and click Subit.

· Go to Sec III.

Sec. III – Registration – once you have finished Sec II, the screen will refresh with what is currently available to register for.

· Click Adult Rec League.

· Follow the screens until registration is complete and you hit “submit.”

The online system charges a “convenience fee” of 2.8% when paying by credit card. If you decide to pay by check, please send to “Canton Soccer Club” at PO Box 87244, Canton, MI 48187. The fees for Fall 2009 are $25 for “continuing players” (those that played in Spring 09) and $50 for players that did not.

Spring Season

It was just brought to my attention that the first game is this weekend, April 19th. The Canton Soccer Club site suggests we're now playing at Heritage Park, so be there at 4:30 to register. I'll see you all there and don't forget about the USA v Honduras match in Chicago June 6th!

I brought the camera to the final match which capped off our championship season w/ a formidable 9-1 victory. It was then put to good use afterwards at the Crow's Nest... here's the best of the pictures.
